Google ships Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.8 Flash Cyber defense variant

On Sep 2 Google shipped Gemini 3.8 Flash plus the defense-focused 3.8 Flash Cyber. Standard pricing unchanged at $0.75/$3.75 per M tokens, doubling after year-end 2026. Cyber is gated behind Fairwind Program.

On September 2 Google's official blog introduced its new workhorse inference model Gemini 3.8 Flash alongside the defense-focused Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber. Google positions the standard model as the workhorse for agentic loops and multi-step enterprise reasoning, with Cyber targeted at vulnerability discovery and remediation. The standard 3.8 Flash retains the introductory pricing of the previous 3.7 Flash at $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens, valid through December 31, 2026, after which it doubles to $1.50 and $7.50.

On capability, Google calls 3.8 Flash the most intelligent Flash model to date, designed for long-horizon software engineering, autonomous agents and multi-step enterprise reasoning. In the launch table 3.8 Flash scored 73.7% on DeepSWE v1.1 versus 65.3% for 3.7 Flash, 89.4% on Terminal-bench 2.1 versus 85.8%, 59.0% on OSWorld-2.0 versus 50.6%, and 54.9% on HLE-Verified. The design philosophy is that 3.8 Flash works harder, performing additional reasoning steps and iterative tool calls on complex tasks, often approaching the performance of higher-cost frontier models. Developers control thinking budget through low, medium and high levels to balance latency, token usage and output quality.

Alongside the standard release, Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber is a software-vulnerability hunting and remediation variant gated behind the Fairwind Program and open only to approved governments, critical-infrastructure organizations and software maintainers. The Chrome Security team reported that 3.8 Flash Cyber produced 2.6x more correct patches to vulnerabilities in Chrome than much larger closed frontier models. Wiz's internal penetration testing benchmark showed a 7.5 percentage point recall improvement at 2.3 to 5.2x lower cost. Google Cloud's Vulnerability Research team used the model to find a critical foundational vulnerability in under two hours, a process that would ordinarily take months. On CyberGym, the standard industry benchmark for vulnerability finding, 3.8 Flash Cyber surpassed both 3.5 Flash Cyber and significantly larger frontier models on autonomous vulnerability discovery.

The standard Gemini 3.8 Flash is available through Google Antigravity, the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Android Studio, and Stitch. Enterprises can use Gemini Enterprise, and consumers with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions can access the model via the Gemini app, AI Mode in Google Search, and Gemini in Sheets. This is Google's third Flash release in 43 days, a cadence that has made the Flash line resemble a rolling delivery train rather than discrete product events.
